Satyam opens Egypt development centre

Service centre will create 300 jobs in Egypt providing support and development for Satyam in the Middle East

Indian IT services giant Satyam has announced the opening of its Global Development Centre (GDC) in Egypt's Smart Village.

The GDC will provide development and support services for Satyam customers in the Middle East, in support of the company's expansion plans for the region.

Satyam says that the centre will train and deploy around 300 staff, with the majority of them coming from the local region.

Virender Aggarwal, director and senior vice president, Satyam Asia-Pacific, Middle East and Africa commented: "As we approach an era of convergence between strategic business operations and information technology, we recognise Egypt as one among the countries in the region that are steadily moving towards the global IT market spotlight in terms of the maturity of its software offshoring industry. This has prompted us to establish a strong presence in Egypt through our partnership with the government to establish the Global Development Centre, which will aid in building a reputation for Egypt as a global software offshoring resource hub.

"With the success of this venture, we are looking forward to adding value due to the proximity to our customers and contributing to the growth of the outsourcing industry in the region," he added.

The company says it is also looking at Saudi Arabia as the possible location for a second Middle East GDC.
