Networking provider scoops the 2007 Aviation Business Award to cap an outstanding year

Air transport networking provider SITA scooped the Technology Provider of the Year Award at the prestigious Aviation Business Awards 2007, held last night in Dubai. Facing tough competition from fellow finalists Amadeus, Airpas Aviation AG, Data Processing Systems and Park Air Systems, SITA won the award for its innovative solutions for airports and airlines.

"We stood out from the competition because we offer comprehensive solution packages to both the airlines and the airports and we keep being innovative with our solutions for both," said Roger Nakouzi, sales director, SITA.

The company has been working closely with IATA and says it is focussing more attention on the total passenger experience than its rivals. "We've been working with the major aviation representative bodies to enhance things like remote and mobile check-in. Our goal is also quite focussed on the end users, to actually improve the actual traveller experience," he said.

SITA has had an outstanding 2007 in the Middle East, which is reflected by the award. With regard to the airline sector, SITA has recently renewed a five-year contract to manage the networking for Emirates on a worldwide scale, and won a $30 million contract to create a managed network environment for Qatar Airways.

"Our business with the airports in the region has also been impressive. SITA has won the Abu Dhabi Terminal 1 and 2 managed services contract, successfully upgraded the Sharjah International Airport to cope with its increase in throughput, and in Saudi Arabia we've linked up all of the major international terminals to one common infrastructure, which will be rolled out further in due course," added Nakouzi.

The awards, which were attended by over 200 of the region's most influential aviation executives, were hailed a huge success and the 2008 event is already hotly anticipated. "It was a great occasion, and a good platform to meet people from the industry, SITA will definitely be attending next year," concluded Nakouzi. The high profile event was held at the Park Hyatt hotel in Dubai on Monday night.
