Netgear buys storage firm Infrant Technologies

Networking kit vendor Netgear has strengthened its position in the storage arena with the US$60 million purchase of US company Infrant Technologies.

Networking kit vendor Netgear has strengthened its position in the storage arena with the US$60 million purchase of US company Infrant Technologies.

California-based Infrant is a manufacturer of enterprise-level storage products and is best known for its ReadyNAS range.

Netgear said it was particularly attracted to Infrant's storage solutions with network attached storage (NAS) devices.

The market for NAS devices is predicted to grow 30-40% in the Middle East next year, according to experts cited by the vendor.

"Infrant Technologies forwards our strategic plans in terms of expanding our product portfolio, global presence and management and technical talent," said Ahmad Zeidan, channel sales manager, Netgear Middle East.

"Infrant's ReadyNAS range, which works on NAS technology, complements our previous Storage Central offering, which is based on Zetera Corporation's micro SAN (Storage Area Network) technology, and provides us the opportunity to capture a wider market for storage solutions," he added.
