Internet search engine Google has purchased web-calling service GrandCentral Communications for an undisclosed sum.

California, US-based GrandCentral is a start-up firm offering a web-based service that allows users to manage their various phones through one interface.

It gives users a single phone number that forwards to all of their different phones, the idea being that the phone number is linked to the person rather than their location.

Google did not disclose its plans for GrandCentral, but it is thought that the internet giant may seek to integrate it into its existing voice product Google Talk.
