Search engine site Araby.com has bagged the best Arabic website in the region, while Aljazeerasport.net has won the best website of the year at the 2007 Pan Arab Web Awards held recently in Dubai.

The ceremony took place at the Burj Al Arab hotel and gathered together over 300 industry professionals. Awards were presented to the best regional websites spanning 32 categories, including financial institutions, government organisations, health services, media and international organisations.

The leading e-commerce website award went to recruitment site, Bayt.com, meanwhile the Dubai Police website at Dubaipolice.gov.ae won the governmental organisation strategic award.

The Company of the Year award went to Lebanese-based Koein and Ethihadairways.com and Eyeofdubai.com both won the International Standards Web Technology award.

Pierre Moukarzel, chairman of the Pan Arab Web Awards committee stated, “With each edition of the Pan Arab Web Awards we have seen a significant increase in the number of participants. Also, this year the quality of entries received has been of the highest level, making it a difficult task for the judges to choose the winners.

Moukarzel went on to say, “What makes the Pan Arab Web Awards different from other web awards is the fact that besides promoting creativity and innovation in web design, this award aims to further the cause of IPR protection in the Arab world through participating companies. We believe in creative artistic skills that are built on innovation, we all as individuals and entities are happy to encourage these skills by having them with us in this event.”
