Mobile communication vendor Mio Technology has kickstarted its venture into the Middle East by delivering its most popular products into Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and the UAE. Almasa, the vendor’s regional distributor for the GCC, is bundling Mio’s products with Route 66 navigation software in a bid to tempt resellers.

Sonia Chan, regional sales head at Mio Technology, said: “We are glad to see our major GPS PDA and PND products to be launched in this region by Almasa IT Distribution. We consider this a major milestone for our business in the region as it provides a great chance for Mio Technology to tap the Middle East market. We are confident that the quality design, vast functions and competitive pricing of our products will meet the expectations of customers in this emerging market. The cooperation with Almasa IT Distribution allows us to further expand our customer base now and in future.”

Mio’s products, the Mio A700, DigiWalker GPS PDA and Personal Navigation Device products will be available in a bundle with Route 66’s Navigate 7 map solution. The software features the very latest maps, driving directions enhanced with upcoming exit signs and continued guidance when GPS reception is temporarily lost through Route 66’s new Extrapolated GPS technology.

Frank Sheu, CEO at Almasa IT Distribution, said: “We are very pleased with the GCC map solution developed by ROUTE 66. We saw months of extensive user testing and ongoing development in which engineers and technicians from Mio Technology, ROUTE 66 and Almasa IT Distribution had been involved. The result is an accurate, reliable and user friendly GCC map solution that is based on the most current data available for those countries. I am convinced that end-users will appreciate Mio products as they combine state-of-the-art technology with competitive pricing and a well thought through map solution.”

Following Mio’s introduction to the region, Almasa plans to deliver these same bundles to outlets in Oman, Qatar and Bahrain in the second quarter of 2007.
