This year’s CABSAT expo was the most successful installment in the event’s 13-year history according to exhibitors and event organisers.
Touted as the region’s premier electronic media and satellite communications event, CABSAT 2007 was attended by over 8, 500 industry professionals.
Organisers also claim the three-day event, held at the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) generated over US$160 million worth of business for exhibitors.
“DWTC’s portfolio of trade shows is designed to drive business growth for participating companies and to benefit the wider regional economy. CABSAT 2007 is a prime example, having welcomed over 8,500 trade visitors from across the region and delivered a strategic platform where major business deals are signed,” said Helal Saeed Al Marri, director general, DWTC and organiser of CABSAT 2007.
The annual event has been hailed as a driving force behind the region’s fledgling mobile television, internet protocol and satellite via broadband industries.
Mobile television solutions featured strongly at this year’s event with a strong emphasis on convergence technology.
Notable highlights of the exhibition included GCC-based network operator Etisalat unveiling its on-the-go entertainment solutions.
The company showcased its mobile TV services enabling users to access movie, news and sports channels on their handsets. Etisalat further emphasised the industry-wide move towards convergence technology with the re-branding of its subsidiary broadcasting company E-vision to include the phrase: “part of etisalat”.
Regional mobile television solutions provider Eurostar also used the event to announce its tie-up with manufacturing companies Quantum and RRD.
Under the terms of the agreement Eurostar will provide an integrated end-to-end digital video broadcast handset (DVBH) solution for end-users using technology supplied by the two companies.
“It is extremely advantageous for RRD to extend to the Middle East with Eurostar after the strong and successful partnership already in place with Quantum for the European and USA mobile TV markets,” said Franco Ferri, chief operating officer of RRD. “This is the first step for delivering to the Middle East our DVB-H proven networking and platform solutions.”
