Online Photoshop coming soon

US-based Adobe Systems has announced that it plans to release an online version of its popular Adobe Photoshop image-editing application within six months.

US-based Adobe Systems has announced that it plans to release an online version of its popular Adobe Photoshop image-editing application within six months.

According to the firm, the online app is a more scaled-down version of the product and is aimed squarely at consumers, especially those who use social networking and media sharing websites. The app will be offered free of charge, with revenue coming from online advertising.

In an interview with News.com, Adobe CEO Bruce Chizen revealed that the new online app is part of a larger move to introduce ad-supported online apps to complement its existing products and broaden the company reach into the consumer market.

The company laid the foundation for hosted Photoshop products this past February with Adobe Remix - a web-based video editing tool, which it now offers for free through the media-sharing website Photobucket.com.

When officially launched, the web version of Adobe PhotoShop will compete with a host of online photo editing apps including Fauxto and the newly released flash-based app, Picnik.
