DSF 2007 set for launch

The Supreme Committee of the Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF) has revealed full details of the combined 2006-2007 instalment of DSF, which kicks off in Dubai this month.

The Supreme Committee of the Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF) has revealed full details of the combined 2006-2007 instalment of DSF, which kicks off in Dubai this month.

The 2006-2007 DSF has attracted 27 sponsors including UAE Sony distributor and consumer electronics retailer Jumbo Electronics and mobile handset and accessories distributor and retailer Axiom Telecom.

HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, chairman of DSF and Dubai Summer Surprises Supreme Committees, said the private sector had played a key role in promoting DSF as a world-renowned annual shopping event.

"The Dubai Shopping Festival enjoys a unique position in the region and is attracting an increasing number of global visitors who give priority to Dubai over other destinations," he said.

"Traders and businessmen in the country await its arrival and expect to make huge profits from the annual sales as they host great promotional offers and discounts to the millions of visitors during the festival."

DSF CEO Saeed Al Nabouda said organisers expected sales to increase 20% and visitor numbers to rise 15% compared to DSF 2005.

Al Nabouda said 2005 DSF sales revenue reached US$1.8 billion – an increase of 15% compared to 2004, while visitor numbers reached 3.3 million compared to 3.1 million in 2004.

DSF 2006, which concluded in February, was almost cancelled out of respect to Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Ruler of Dubai, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), who passed away on January 4.

Jumbo Electronics CEO Arvind Nair said the retailer planned a number of surprise promotions at this year’s event.

“As a key sponsor of DSF, we are planning a range of offers involving world renowned brands, as a demonstration of Jumbo's commitment to our valued customers,” he said.

DSF 2007 will be staged from December 20, 2006 to February 2, 2007.
