Etihad secures strong US links

Etihad Airways has streamlined its services to the US by signing an interline e-ticketing agreement with the world’s fifth largest airline, Continental Airlines, which serves 292 destinations worldwide.

Etihad Airways has streamlined its services to the US by signing an interline e-ticketing agreement with the world’s fifth largest airline, Continental Airlines, which serves 292 destinations worldwide.

The deal, which was sealed after Etihad launched its daily non-stop service between Abu Dhabi and New York in October, will offer passengers seamless travel to key destinations across the US. However, Kirk Allbrow, regional GM – Europe & Americas, Etihad, has revealed that plans are already in the pipeline for Etihad to extend its own US services beyond New York.

“We would maybe look at flying on the West Coast [of the US] quite soon,” he told ATN. “We are also looking to increase the frequencies of our flights to Canada.”

Etihad currently flies three times weekly to Toronto via Brussels, but Allbrow said the carrier was keen to operate a non-stop service.

Ensuring the New York service is convenient to as many GCC customers as possible is also on Etihad’s agenda.

Muscat residents for example, can reach New York in 16 hours due to the airline’s fast connection possibilities via Abu Dhabi. Etihad flies from Muscat to Abu Dhabi daily and the connection time to New York is just one hour.

“One of Etihad’s key aims when opening the new route was to use Abu Dhabi as a hub to bring in more commercial and leisure travellers to Oman, and we look forward to building on this further,” said the carrier’s sales manager for Oman, Khondakar Kabir.

Etihad is offering Omani customers promotional rates of OMR 220 (US $595) one-way, and OMR 289 ($751) return. The Muscat to Abu Dhabi flight is served by a 378-seat Boeing 777-300ER and the Abu Dhabi-New York leg is operated by a 240-seat long-range Airbus A340-500.
