20 line up for Adwea plant

Around 20 companies have prequalified to bid for the construction of what is set to be Abu Dhabi’s seventh independent water and power project in the UAE

Around 20 companies have prequalified to bid for the construction of what is set to be Abu Dhabi’s seventh independent water and power project in the UAE.

Fujairah 2 is being developed by the Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority and will have the capacity to generate 2000mW of electricity and 591,000m3 of water by the time it goes into operation in April 2010.

Among the prequalified companies are the UK’s International Power with Japan’s Marubeni Corporation, Singapore’s SembCorp Utilities with Sojitz Corporation and Kyushu Electric Power Company, both of Japan, and Dubai-based AES Oasis with Japan’s Sumitomo Corporation.

Others include Tokyo Electric Power Company, Korea Electric Power Company, Hong Kong Electric Power Company, Essa Power from India and Suez Energy Middle East.

The deadline for final bids is 29 March 2007. A final agreement is expected on 19 July.
