Etisalat confirmed its commitment to broadcast mobile TV at GITEX 2006. During the exhibition, Etisalat presented live demonstrations of pay-TV channels on Nokia N92 multimedia mobiles and other Digital Video Broadcast-Handheld (DVB-H) enabled devices and mobile phones. The service is currently being finalised by Etisalat in coordination with the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA).

“By introducing mobile TV, we are increasing the consumer’s access to information and entertainment,” says Essa Al Haddad, chief marketing officer at Etisalat. Etisalat has partnered with broadcasters such as Al Jazeera, BBC World, CNBC Arabiya, ART, E-junior and Infinity TV for the demonstration. The trial service is free of charge and all consumers who own DVB-H enabled devices can access the service within a 2km radius of Dubai World Trade Centre.

“Mobile TV using DVB-H technology has become a reality,” says Al Haddad. “Etisalat is fully committed to this technology, and we will work to deliver a rich multimedia experience for all of our customers,” he adds.
