Blue Coat’s new regional head, Nidal Taha, has hit the ground running at GITEX, with the company on a drive to expand its reach and market share as it continues to develop its WAN and application acceleration performance enhancing systems.

Taha, who is general manager for Blue Coat’s Middle East and Africa operations, has been part of the regional team since its start, and is keen to drive the vendor on to new heights in the region, replicating the Blue Coat success elsewhere in the world.

“I’ve been with Blue Coat for the last seven years working with our partners and resellers and building relationships with key regional telecoms operators, so I’m looking forward to taking the company forward in the Middle East and Africa market,” says Taha.

Blue Coat is currently in the process of evolving its solutions, moving beyond its traditional area of expertise of web acceleration and security to encompass advanced systems to optimise and accelerate application delivery across a distributed enterprise.

The company has built up a strong reputation already in this sphere, and is now looking to take on new challenges to expand its market.

“In the past we have picked a market that was several times bigger than the company, focused exclusively on that, and dominated the market,” says Craig Stewart, VP for EMEA at Blue Coat.

“Now we want to use this base to capture larger markets, going against some of the more established players in the application delivery space. We feel that our offering gives enterprises the necessary levels of control, security and insight into remote application delivery.”

Blue Coat’s approach is to not only optimise network traffic, but also set policies and priorities based on user type. Stewart gives the example of a company CEO – wherever the CEO is, he or she will need the same level of access.

The vendor has seen high-end enterprise customers along with potential partners from the channel visiting its GITEX stand this year.

“GITEX is well worth doing, and we’ve been here for the past five or six years,” says Stewart.
