GITEX Shopper success story continues

GITEX Shopper is set for another record breaking year with major vendors such as HP, Acer, Fujitsu Siemens and Lenovo reporting incredible sales.

GITEX Shopper is set for another record breaking year with major vendors such as HP, Acer, Fujitsu Siemens and Lenovo reporting incredible sales. Visitor numbers are expected to cross the 120,000 mark with early reports from retailers indicating that total sales during the event will smash last year’s figure of US$20m

“We are delighted with the overwhelming consumer attendance on the first three days of GITEX Shopper & Consumer Electronics Expo 2006,” said DWTC Director General, Helal Saeed Al Marri. “More importantly, participating exhibitors have expressed great satisfaction at the high level of sales generated over the counter. GITEX Shopper has indeed lived up to its reputation as the most sought after IT and consumer electronics event in the region.”

HP, which flew six lucky competition winners to the retail extravaganza by helicopter yesterday, is leading the sales charge. “It has been phenomenal so far,” said Sherifa Hady, consumer business manager at HP Middle East. “We have sold an incredible amount across all product lines including notebooks, printers and handheld devices and our retail partners are extremely happy.”

Besides its unique ‘shopper in a chopper’ competition, HP is also running dedicated demonstration booths at this year’s GITEX Shopper allowing visitors to try out the products before making their final purchase decision.

GITEX Shopper visitors are once again showing an insatiable demand for notebooks. Manuel Linnig, EMEA marketing division PR manager at Toshiba, said: “We have already sold more than twice the number of units that we sold last year. Customers that purchase a Qosmio notebook during the event also have the chance to win a Harley Davidson.”

Fujitsu Siemens has also seen its entry level notebook flying off the retailers’ stands at the event according to regional VP Habib Bouchrara. It is a similar story for both Lenovo and Acer.

“GITEX Shopper has been really busy,” added Mohamed Sharaf, marketing manager, Middle East, Egypt and Pakistan at Lenovo. “The real sales activity starts from now onwards. Shopper is a vital event for us to be in terms of the consumer and SMB customers. They form a massive chunk of the market and are one of the fastest growing segments.”

Krishna Murthy, general manager at Acer Middle East, added: “The footfall has been much higher than last year and the first day started very strongly because it was a holiday. We are expecting the last couple of days to be incredible as well.”

GITEX Shopper runs until Friday. With hundreds of exhibitors running deals, promotions and offers, Airport Expo is the place to be for all those hunting for the latest technology kit at competitive prices.
