Sky branches out

Sky Electronics is using its time at GITEX this year to introduce the local market to German-based EBV Elektronik. Sky’s newest partner is a specialist in the semiconductor distribution industry and works with companies such as AMD, Infineon Technologies, Texas Instruments and more.
The partnership was forged in anticipation of a predicted surge in demand for semiconductors in the Middle East.
“The Middle East is a booming economy and though the electronics industry is not yet established, it will certainly happen. Silicon Oasis is an ambitious project, bringing semi conductor design, manufacturing and more to Dubai,” says Aditya Sahni, regional sales manager, Sky Electronics.
“Sky and EBV want to be pioneers in this industry and we are the first to bring semi conductors to this market and also provide technical help to customers which enables them to realise their customised solutions.”
Tyan Computer Corp, another Sky Electronics partner, is also on hand and displaying its ‘personal supercomputer’ Typhoon series.
“We developed the Typhoon series with low noise, high performance, mobility and small form factor in mind,” says Ray Huang Wang, senior sales manager, Tyan Computer Corp. “Traditionally if you have a standard supercomputer positioned inside a controlled room, you not only incur costs from having to maintain a set temperatue in the room all the time, you also have to ask for permission before you actually get to use the machine. With our Typhoon series’ state-of-the-art cooling system, the machine is just slightly louder than a standard desktop and will run without requiring a cool room. It’s also small enough to place right under your desk.”
Wang reckons the Typhoon series is perfect for companies that frequently run complex simulations or processor-intensive calculations. The series can be bought with either AMD or Intel processors and will be sold under Tyan’s newly introduced OEM brand TyanPSC. The Typhoon 600 Series is presently sampling and will be available for purchase in January 2007.
