Media to take off
Optical Disc Group expects the Middle East's disc manufacturing sector to take off and is in prime position to take advantage of the boom
The Middle East’s media manufacturing sector is set to double in size by 2008 with the influx of start-up companies, according to the managing director of Optical Disc Group (ODG).
Optical media equipment supplier ODG is returning to GITEX for its third appearance to promote the Optical Media Academy, its technology, training and development centre, set to open at Dubai’s Silicon Oasis in 2007.
“This will be the first fully equipped technology, training and development centre of its kind in the world,” says Reza Shaybani, managing director, Optical Disc Group.
The company is also using GITEX as a platform to launch versatile compact disc high density (VCD-HD), a new pre-recorded format, said to offer manufacturers reduced production costs.
“VCD HDTM is a single layer optical disc format, 0.6mm thick, yet offering a 4.7GB storage capacity. The format’s specifications stand within the limits of regular consumer DVD drives and PC drives,” he explains.
Teaming up with equipment providers has seen the company expand its export market reach over the past
15 years to Europe, India, Russia, the Middle East and Africa (MENA).
“The Middle East’s opticalmedia sector has grown significantly over the past three years. It is no longer simply an importer of finished goods, which has permitted us to install and
sell considerable numbers of DVD-R, CD-R, CD and DVD lines, and machines to 80% of the optical media manufacturers in the Middle East,” Shaybani says.
“We have the largest market share in the Middle East and want to maintain and further develop the contacts we have already.”
In addition to brand new products, the firm also offers pre-owned equipment. ODG offers full installation and training services in addition to a limited manufacturer’s warranty on these products.
Optical Disc Group was established in 1994 and is the holding company of Optical Disc Technology Group, Optical Disc Services, Discjobs.com, Optical Disc Technology Centre (ODTC), Finance4opticalmedia.com and StamperXpress.
