US Robotics talks up VoIP potential

Voice over IP products take a prominent position on US Robotics GITEX stand as the networking vendor looks forward to a regional sales boost

VOICE OVER IP (VoIP) products are wowing GITEX visitors to US Robotics’ stand today.

With rumours continuing to grow that the regulatory environment regarding the use of VoIP in the UAE is set to ease — and high hopes that such a move will be replicated in countries across the Middle East — US Robotics is wasting no time in making a play for this fast-growing sector and increasing customer awareness.

“VoIP is a very big opportunity in the Middle East because of its ease of use and cost effectiveness,” declares Sumit Kumar, Middle East and North Africa regional manager at US Robotics. “Analysing the opportunity in dollar terms is not feasible at the moment as we are not sure which countries are going to allow it.”

VoIP products taking pride of place on the US Robotics display stands include two Skype certified products — the USR9630 cordless phone for Skype and the USR931 accessory handset.

“These cordless phones are two more examples of US Robotics’ commitment to enabling the world’s conversation via Skype,” says Manrique Brenes, director of hardware business development for Skype.

“With US Robotics, we are providing the growing Skype community with high quality devices that make internet calling more comfortable and familiar,” Brenes adds.
