Networking wholesaler Online Distribution is organising a roadshow in December to help regional companies in the GCC manage their datacentres, applications, servers and network from a central point. Starting in Abu Dhabi, the roadshow will cover seven destinations including Dubai, Riyadh, Dammam, Bahrain, Kuwait and Oman.

Online is hoping to consolidate its strategy of providing value added support to its resellers by holding seminars to present new tools to redesign core data centre architectures. Resellers will have the opportunity to meet senior members of Online’s vendor partners who will be supporting the event. This includes enclosure solutions vendor APW, diversified technologies outfit Corning, infrastructure device vendor Avocent, power supply specialist APC and structured cabling systems manufacturer Ortronics.

Venu Menon, divisional manager at Online Distribution said: “We have organised this roadshow primarily to promote our vendors in the different verticals, but companies in the region also need greater visibility and control over the servers in their data centres.”

According to recent IDC reports, data centres will only keep pace with increasing business needs for a year if they’re not modified while 10% of them do not even match current business requirements. Online claims that standardising on a smaller number of management tools could help data centres cut up to 50% of their operational costs.

Many CIOs and IT directors are opting for a quick-fix solution of buying more servers, but Menon does not believe this is a long term solution: “They need to make investments in solutions that will meet their current and future needs — offering scalability to grow and adapt with their business, and extending the life of their data centre. With the increase in demands on IT, it is the industry’s responsibility to help customers make smarter choices around all data centre issues, including energy consumption,” he concluded.
