Alpha clinches Sharjah contract

Alpha Airports, signs 10-year contract for Sharjah International Airport in the UAE

In-flight catering company, Alpha Airports, has signed a 10-year deal to provide its services at Sharjah International Airport in the UAE.

Alpha Airports’ first step in the UAE market will see the company will provide ancillary services to all airlines operating out of the airport, and take responsibility for the business and first class lounges, where it plans to introduce casual dining brand, World News Café.

World News Café will offer freshly prepared beverages, sandwiches and pastries, with its interior boasting 50-inch plasma screen televisions broadcasting news in English
and Arabic.

“Having taken over the contract, Alpha will now provide some, but not all, of the airport catering. Our World News Café already operates in Jordan’s Queen Alia International Airport, which proves the brand can be translated for the Middle East market with a focus on popular products like manaeesh and freshly squeezed juices,” commented Lionel Wilton, managing director, Alpha Airports Middle East.

In order to further cement its position in the Middle East, the catering company is also investing more than AED3 million (US $937,000), in a joint venture with budget airline operator Air Arabia, which has its base at the airport.

Wilton also revealed the company is looking into opportunities to work with several Saudi Arabian airlines, a market that is fiercely contested by catering companies.
