UK mechanical and electrical contractor Haden Young is expanding its Midlands operation following a US $414 million (£220 million) contract win for Birmingham’s new ‘super’ hospital.

The firm will create 35 new jobs and has added 1850m2 to its facility at Hill Top Estate in West Bromwich, increasing its size to almost 4366m2.

The contract for the hospital is the largest single order in the firm’s history. It is part of a $1412 million Private Finance Initiative scheme where it is Balfour Beatty’s joint venture partner. The contract follows other recent wins in the same region of the UK, which have triggered the expansion.

Bob Francis, manufacture and supply chain manager, commented: “We chose West Bromwich because it has a readily available workforce with the engineering skills we require.”
