Jumbo set to show its HD credentials
High-definition A/V equipment to come under the spotlight in November, as Jumbo starts a major expansion plan for the Middle East and Africa.
A major highlight of UAE power retailer Jumbo Electronics' showcase at Gitex Shopper and Consumer Electronics Expo 2006 will be the new range of Sony Bravia high definition-ready LCD TVs and HD Handycam camcorders.
Jumbo is the exclusive distributor of Sony products in the Middle East and one of the largest Sony partners worldwide. It also boasts deals with a host of other major industry players including Acer, Compaq, Ericsson, Fujitsu Siemens, Grundig, IBM, Intershop, Microsoft, NEC, Nokia, Opticon, Palm, Philips, Samsung and Siemens.
High definition represents the next-frontier of television, offering superb picture quality and Dolby Digital surround sound capabilities.
Sony recently unveiled the world's first HD-disc based camcorder, the Handycam HDR-UX1 and hard disk-based Handycam HDR-SR1 in the Middle East – both of which will be demonstrated by Jumbo at Gitex Shopper.
After a stellar financial performance in 2005, Jumbo COO Arvind Nair said the company was “poised on the threshold of rapid local and regional growth”.
“Currently, most of the regional markets are robust with high growth forecast, increase in per capita income and expected spurt in tourism. In line with the market expectations, Jumbo has decided to expand into future growth markets including Oman, Bahrain, Kuwait and a few African markets like Sudan,” he explains.
