This year Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC), the organiser of Gitex Shopper and Consumer Electronics Expo 2006, has teamed up with the region's best selling monthly computer magazine — Windows Middle East — to bring madcap computer gaming action to the main hall at Airport Expo and this way give shoppers a fun way to take the weight off their feet.

Visitors to the first ever 'Shopper Gaming Zone' will find an entire bank of PCs loaded up with the hottest new PC shooter, racing and sporting titles; meaning every type of thrill-seeker will find an experience they'll want to enjoy.

Gamers can simply walk into the Zone and register for free, after which they'll have the chance to prove their prowess against both novice fraggers and serious button bashers alike. The very best performers will walk away with mega spot prizes to
further enliven their technological lives.

In teaming up with Windows Middle East magazine, Gitex Shopper and Consumer Electronics Expo, has chosen the region’s primary gaming partner, as in June this year the magazine hosted the massively successful PC gaming event - ‘Windows Gaming Championship’ (WGC) in the UAE.

The largest PC gaming event of its kind ever to hit the Middle East, WGC saw over 300 players take part in a two-day, dual-title funfest, with winners bagging bags of hot new IT kit and, even more importantly, cheques worth thousands of US dollars!

Dozens of teams signed up to do battle on giant screens, with a choice of Warcraft III: Frozen Throne and Quake 4 on offer for frag junkies.

From the initial rounds to the final frantic four-way frag fests, gamers from all around the region did battle for the prizes on offer. In the WC3 contest, teams ‘wE’ and ‘Nox’ took the last two spots, with ‘wE’ notching up a score of 119,000. The Q4 challenge saw ‘P3RPL3XITY’ perplexed, and ‘Spammah’ get the glory.

The good news for regional Gaming Zone visitors is that the team behind WGC is now looking to take the fun further afield, by planning a full-scale, Gulf-wide WGC contest.
