Europe develops aviation partnership with Africa

The European Union recently held a seminar for the aviation industry, in partnership with the African Union, to share information on the regulation and functioning of the European aviation industry and its relationship with countries in other parts of the world.

The European Union recently held a seminar for the aviation industry, in partnership with the African Union, to share information on the regulation and functioning of the European aviation industry and its relationship with countries in other parts of the world.

The event, held in Brussels, provided an opportunity for aviation authorities from 30 African states to meet regional economic communities and discuss a list of principal issues affecting the industry.

“The seminar not only eased co-operation between the European Union and the African Union in order to achieve the highest levels of safety and security for aviation services in both continents, but also proved an important step in promoting regional integration in Africa,” said Jacques Barrot, vice president of the European Commission.

The seminar addressed the main challenges African States are facing in order to meet the needs of a modern aviation sector, such as economic regulation, safety and security standards, and technological and infrastructure investments.

The participants agreed to primarily develop the aviation partnership by bringing existing air service agreements between EU member states and African states
into legal conformity.
