RTA converges on Nortel

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has signed a deal with Nortel and local integrator Beta Information Technology for a new converged voice and data network.

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has signed a deal with Nortel and local integrator Beta Information Technology for a new converged voice and data network.

“As a new authority in charge of transportation in Dubai we wanted to install a highly sophisticated infrastructure that would maximise network manageability, reliability, mobility and security in our environment,” said Abdulla Al Madani, CEO of Corporate Support Services at the RTA.

“Nortel was able to provide us with a simple, high performance, cost effective solution that helps meeting our needs.”

The government organisation, which was created in 2005 to take charge of Dubai’s transport systems, will be adopting a range of Nortel systems, including a communications server, high-bandwidth Ethernet switches, and a wireless LAN system which will enable wireless VoIP applications, among others. The hardware will enable the RTA to increase its staff count to tackle its wide mandate, including construction of Dubai’s Metro system.

“We are committed to providing government and public sector institutions like Roads and Transport Authority of Dubai with intelligent and flexible communication systems that makes easier for citizens to access them,” said Ramin Attari, vice president at Nortel Middle East.

“Nortel has a proven track in providing governments secure, end-to-end network solutions that promote growth, enhance day-to-day operational processes, help maximising employee productivity and leverage standards of customer servicing.”
