Qatar and Bahrain top Arab connectivity table

Qatar and Bahrain have the highest penetration levels for internet and telephony of all Arab countries, according to a new report.

Qatar and Bahrain have the highest penetration levels for internet and telephony of all Arab countries, according to a new report.

The Arab Advisors Group, a telecoms and media research firm, calculated the Total Country Connectivity Measure (TCCM) by adding the penetration rate of landlines, GSM and internet in each country.

The TCCM rate for Qatar stood at 234%, followed closely by Bahrain on 231%, with the UAE and Kuwait showing similarly high levels of connectivity. Sudan and Yemen trailed on 20% and 35% respectively.

The figure shows the extent of connectivity of individuals in a country using fixed lines, GSM mobile, and internet.

“The massive development which we are witnessing today in the telecom and media sectors on a regional level is proof that we are on the right track, and able to deliver services matching global levels,” said Jawad Abbasi, general manager of Arab Advisors.

The findings were announced after the group’s Third Annual Media and Telecommunications Convergence Conference in Amman, Jordan last week, which was attended by over 330 representatives from the Middle East media and telecom sectors.
