Taiwanese vendor Via has introduced its vision for the digital future at Computex 2006, an online platform to offer truly ubiquitous digital content — claiming its Via OnDemand service offers content anywhere, any time to any digital device.
Via OnDemand will be offered through an eponymous company, the first foray by the Via Technologies group, which has previously concentrated on component and hardware development, into the software market.
The OnDemand platform aims to take digital content to the ‘next level’ and become the platform of choice for the distribution of music, movies, games and TV shows to mobile phones and PDAs as well as traditional PCs and notebooks.
Via claims its solution is not just to the next generation of its own development, but the next step for Taiwan’s communication and information industries as a whole.
“We have been aggressively developing the hardware information system platform in the past with success. Now its time to extend our direction to the next step, and only by integrating the hardware and digital content service solution, we can satisfy the demand for digital entertainment and information application for the next generation,” said Cher Wang, chairperson at VIA Technologies.
Via is putting a great emphasis on its OnDemand facility’s range, and claims that while other vendors are building ‘walled off’ proprietary personal entertainment systems, OnDemand covers a much greater range and can enable digital content publishers a much better, more open and easier way of reaching their customers.
“We can’t ignore the importance of digital content in building a perfect information and consumer electronics ecosystem. Apart from the content itself, whether or not we can construct an integrated distribution platform is also key for gaining success in the digital content business,” said Wayne Chang, co-founder of Via OnDemand.
