Mullan leaves Hill & Knowlton to launch new training business

The regional client services director of PR firm Hill & Knowlton has left to form his own communications training company.

The regional client services director of PR firm Hill & Knowlton has left to form his own communications training company.

James Mullan, who has been with Hill & Knowlton for 10 years, has decided to form a partnership with former CNBC broadcast journalist, Oliver Blofeld.

Their new company, called Insight, will be based in Dubai and will offer a range of media and communications training services to companies across the Middle East.

“I’ve had a great 10 years with H&K. It has been fantastic working in a region and with a company that has been growing so fast.

“But I felt that it was time to capitalise on an opportunity that I have spotted in the market,” said Mullan.

Mullan said that Insight would seek to work with local, regional and multinational companies, offering them training in media relations, presentation and speech skills.

He claimed that Insight already has several clients on board, although he declined to reveal their names.

“We want to help companies understand how the media works, what the dynamics and pressures are, and how companies can work more effectively with the media,” Mullan added.

Dave Robinson, CEO of Hill & Knowlton, said: “We will probably be working with James at some point when there is a need for us to find external resources or if it’s in an area where we do not have a specialism. We’re grateful for all of his contributions over the years and wish him well for the future.”

Mullan was one of two regional client services directors at Hill & Knowlton in Dubai. Regional director Andrew Bone will continue his role in the firm’s Dubai office, while Fran McElwaine — currently running operations at Hill & Knowlton’s Qatar branch — will step into a more regional role overseeing business in Qatar, Bahrain and Kuwait.
