The Ritz-Carlton doubles up in Doha

Doha is set to achieve one tourism landmark ahead of Dubai, as the Qatar capital is set to become the first Middle East city to be home to two Ritz-Carlton hotels later this year.

Doha is set to achieve one tourism landmark ahead of Dubai, as the Qatar capital is set to become the first Middle East city to be home to two Ritz-Carlton hotels later this year.

Following on from the success of The Ritz-Carlton, Doha, the American luxury hotel operator has been chosen to manage the Sharq Village & Spa, the latest hospitality offering from the Qatar National Hotels Company (QNHC).

“Doha has passed being an upcoming destination. It is now a strong destination for business and leisure travellers, and with the development in Qatar and Doha hosting events such as the Asian Games, this only added to the global awareness of this market,” said Bob Kharazmi, vice president, international, The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, at the launch press conference.

Designed to reflect a traditional Qatari village, the Sharq Village & Spa, managed by The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, will offer 174 rooms, a number of restaurants, and a Six Senses Spa. The hotel will open in late 2006.

“The Sharq Village & Spa is a true reflection of Qatari culture, heritage and architectural design and a major step in QNHC’s mission to develop and promote Qatar’s hospitality industry,” said Sheikh Nawaf Bin Jassim Bin Jabor Al Thani, chairman of QNHC.

In Dubai, Ritz-Carlton currently operates the 138-room The Ritz-Carlton, Dubai, and has a second property currently under construction at Dubai International Financial Centre and scheduled to open in 2008.
