RTA gives Blue Line green light

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has given its final approval for a third line to be added to the Dubai Metro system.

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has given its final approval for a third line to be added to the Dubai Metro system.

Design work for the Blue Line will begin in August, while construction is expected to be finished in 2011, one year after the completion of the Red and Green Lines.

At 47km-long, the Blue Line will provide a shuttle service between Dubai International Airport and the new airport at Jebel Ali.

It will also be connected with the Red Line at Rashidiya and with the Green Line in Al Nahda.

The RTA is in discussions with those behind major developments on the Emirates Road, whose communities the Blue Line will serve, to establish where stations will be built and how the network will link up to their own monorail systems.
