Atlas Group strikes a path from Abu Dhabi to Mauritius

The Dubai company behind a new US $136 million (AED500 million) five-star coastal landmark, The Emirates Pearl in Abu Dhabi, has also revealed its intention to have a major presence in the Seychelles and Mauritius within five years.

Telecommunications company, the Atlas Group, has only just entered the hospitality sector in the UAE, but in joint venture with the Tourism Development & Investment Company it launched the 240m-high tower on the Abu Dhabi’s Khalidiya coast last week.

Located opposite the Emirates Palace Hotel, the business and leisure resort will centre around a 47-storey tower, which will house 352 rooms and suites and 104 apartments, all
balanced on a 22m-high, five-storey podium.

A 20m-high atrium will feature five restaurants as well as service centres, offices, a gym, spa, meeting rooms, business centre and shops.

“We will be looking for a contractor to carry out the piling and foundations, and the digging and shoring work by July, and once that has been done we will want a main contractor in place by September,” said Ahmed Seddiq Samea M Al Mutawaa, president of the Atlas Group.

The project is scheduled for completion by the middle
of 2008.

The Atlas Group also owns a small luxury business hotel in Dubai Media City, which opened earlier this year and is planning a second property in Dubai in the next six months.

But the Atlas Group already owns a 26-acre beach front property in the capital of the Seychelles, Mahe. And Al Mutawaa told Construction Week that Atlas Group has major expansion plans for the Indian Ocean islands. He said that with Emirates and Etihad making regular flights to the islands it was good business sense to develop there.

“It would be nice for Europeans to come here [the UAE] for five days, go there [Seychelles] for a few days and then come back here [the UAE] again,” he said. “There is a nice link; the UAE to the Seychelles is only four hours.

“We already own land in the Seychelles and want to build a mix of villas and residential bungalows over the next five years.

“The vision for the Atlas Group is to expand. But we want to ensure that we work hard on all the projects we have already,” added Al Mutawaa.
