Al-Khafji implements Cognos solution

Al-Khafji Joint Operations, the offshore oil and gas producer which is jointly-owned by the Kuwait Gulf Oil Company and Aramco Gulf Operations, is implementing the Cognos Performance Management System within its corporate planning department.

The oil giant has completed phase one of the deployment
of the Cognos platform, which includes enterprise business
intelligence and enterprise planning, budgeting and forecasting modules.

In phase two, which it expects to finish by the end of this year it will roll out the budgeting and forecasting elements.

The solution, which is being implemented by Performance Systems, will enable it to easily analyse data from the different departments within the organisation and produce accurate reports for senior management that can then be used to assess performance and plan budgets.

The solution has been integrated with the organisation’s SAP enterprise resource planning (ERP) system, which uses the Financials and HR modules and also with its bespoke oil and gas IT systems.

Mutlaq Al-Khodair, manager of the corporate planning department, said that as Al-Khafji is a joint operation — with two shareholders, both with different requirements — it needed to have an effective performance management system in place.

“We have 23 departments but only seven of these are directed towards our core operation, which is oil production,” he said.

“There are many different operations going on within the joint operation and as the corporate planning department we need to communicate with all these departments at one time, get their results at one time, to deliver the end results to shareholders at a specific date,” Al-Khodair continued.

“The only way we can do that really is to have an automated online reporting, business plan preparation and budgeting system which enables us to satisfy the requirements at the set target dates,” he added.
