HP bolsters LaserJet line-up

HP IPG Middle East today added to its laser printer line-up by unveiling one monochrome and two new Color LaserJet printers.

The LaserJet 1018 is a monochrome (black and white print) machine. In launching this new black and white contender, HP’s product marketing manager for laser printing in the EMEA region, Robert Dinkelacker, reconfirmed the firm’s ongoing commitment to mono models, which offer high-speed printing at a lower price point than their colour counterparts.

“Research suggests that for every four mono laser printer currently sold, one colour laser is sold," he said, adding that, however, “by 2009 we believe this ratio should be just two to one.”

The US $249 Color LaserJet 1600 meanwhile is an 8ppm desktop product that HP is positioning as the smaller brother of HP’s 2600 (in that it costs less and doesn’t include Ethernet connectivity).

Last but not least, the CLJ2605 is a quicker 10ppm LaserJet offering. Effectively the higher-performance brother of the 2600 (which offers, in comparison, a HP-quoted colour print speed of 8ppm), this machine includes LAN connectivity, memory card slots, and is aimed squarely at small work teams.

“How we differentiate our colour LaserJets from our competitors is through their colour consistency (prints look great and the printers deliver what users expect), with our Color Access Control feature, with which users can easily manage the cost of colour printing, and printer performance,” explained Dinkelacker, “in that our printers are fast and you won’t need to reprint documents because the machines work right, first time.”
