Panasonic stretches digicam warranties

Panasonic has announced a new three-year warranty program for its digital cameras. This extended support will initially be available to buyers in the UAE and follows the launch of the firm’s new range of Lumix digital cameras.

Speaking at a press conference held in Dubai today, Shaun Sullivan, divisional manager for marketing stated, “Previously, we only offered a one-year warranty period for digital cameras but in order to offer our customers better after sales support and value for money, we’ve decided to increase the warranty period. If this program is successful in the UAE, we’ll soon launch it in other countries in the region.”

The firm today showcased six new digital cameras, which included the DMC-FX01, DMC-TZ1, DMC-FZ7, DMC-LZ5, DMC-LZ3 and DMC-LS2. These cater to regional semi-professional and amateur photographers alike.

The five-megapixel DMC-TZ1 boasts a 10x optical zoom, a LEICA DC lens and image stabilisation. The TZ1 – aimed at travellers - sports a Calendar View feature, which lets users arrange their images based on the day they were shot. Also onboard is a World Time Setting feature, which lets users choose their travel destination from a map. Once the destination has been chosen, the local date and time is displayed. This means snappers can conveniently time stamp their photos without having to manually enter times.

Panasonic’s six-megapixel DMC-FZ7 features 12x optical zoom, LEICA lens and a 2.5” LCD display. The FZ7 features a high-angel shooting function, making it easier to see the lens when holding the camera high to shoot over a crowd.

The firm’s new range of Lumix cameras will be available immediately across the region. Prices range from US $202 to $354.
