Bavaria expands its network in the Gulf

Germany-based Bavaria International has signed management contracts for two additional properties in the region: the Bavaria City Suites in Doha, with 2200 suites, and a 400-unit property in Sharjah.

The hotel management company is already working on the Bavaria Executive Suites Dubai, which is scheduled to open fully in 2007, and, according to CEO Thomas Gertz, is now also turning its attention to South Africa.

“We have big plans. We are approached on an almost daily basis to assume management of similar style properties, but we proceed very cautiously to ensure that whatever properties we take on reach our stringent standards,” Gertz told Hotelier Middle East, hinting that additional UAE properties were a possibility.

The Bavaria Executive Suites Dubai consists of two 40-storey towers. The first will open at the end of 2006 with 1050 suites, fitness club, swimming pool, restaurants and meetings facilities. An Angsana Spa, located in this tower, will open shortly after that. The second tower will open approximately three months after the first.

“We have staggered the opening to ensure our standards of service and operation are attained, and to provide the guests with complete facilities in each tower upon opening rather than focusing on getting the rooms ready and the rest follows later,” Gertz explained.

“The sheer scale of the property is the main challenge. For example, we are not ordering 250 TV sets — we require 4500. Not to mention the number of executives and staff to be recruited,” Gertz added.
