Lexar hits back at Space

Memory card vendor Lexar Media has hit back at claims made by Space Distribution that its products are too expensive and that the distributor dropped its products from its portfolio as a result.

Memory card vendor Lexar Media has hit back at claims made by Space Distribution that its products are too expensive and that the distributor dropped its products from its portfolio as a result.

Lexar counters that the distribution contract with Space was due to be terminated after poor sales performance. The vendor has since appointed a new distributor for its UAE operations, Emirates Photo Marketing, who took charge of Lexar’s flash memory and SD card distribution as of May 1st.

“Space were given a lot of opportunities to improve the business that they were doing, and they didn’t meet expectations. As a result sales were dropping every month. We decided to give them six months notice, and I recall sending them a letter telling them that if business didn’t improve in this time, we would look elsewhere,” said Bhagwan G. Mulani, regional sales manager Middle East at Lexar.

Mulani blasted claims that its products are too expensive, citing a different target market for Lexar’s products to PQI, who Space has now tied up with in place of Lexar.

“For them [Space] to say this is wrong. Every product has its own place in the market and every vendor has a different target market. We are targeting professionals, we have approximately 68% of the worldwide market for professional flash memory devices, we are an American company and we put in the research and development. We offer price protection — there are a host of benefits that we have over other vendors,” added Mulani.

Lexar products are distributed by Ashraf and Company in Kuwait, Ashraf WLL in Bahrain, Ali Bin Ali in Qatar, Samir Photographic Supplies in Saudi Arbaia, Shah Nagar Das Maigi in Oman, Magnet SRL in Lebanon, Sal Bashian in Jordan and Aphmor and Arashvision in Iran.
