Dell has introduced a new addition to its Inspiron line called the Inspiron 6400 - a multimedia notebook aimed at regional media buffs and small businesses.

The Inspiron 6400 laptop features an Intel Core Duo (dual-core) processor that runs at a 667 MHz bus speed, 512Mbytes of RAM and a 5-in-1 flash card reader. The notebook can be configured with up to 2Gbytes of RAM.

A DVD/CD-RW combo drive and four USB2.0 slots are also included along with support for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. In terms of permanent storage, the notebook can be fitted with a 100Gbyte hard disk. Microsoft’s Windows Media Centre 2005 and integrated graphics systems are optional.

The 6400 also boasts a 15.4” wide-screen LCD display and can be had (as an optional extra) with Dell TrueLife technology. The firm claims this delivers a high-contrast, high-detail experience when watching films or viewing photos. Also onboard is Dell’s MediaDirect, which allows users to access their digital media such as photos and MP3s by simply pressing a button.

With a weight of 2.8kg, the Inspiron 6400 fits within the desktop replacement category and can be purchased in stores across the region for approximately US $1089.

The 6400 boasts similar specifications to LG’s home entertainment notebook, the P1 Exrpress Dual, which also features a 15.4 inch wide-screen LCD, 512Mbytes of RAM, an Intel dual-core processor and a 80Gbyte hard drive for $1575.
