Panasonic has unveiled the newest member of its Toughbook family, called the Toughbook CF-74 – a semi-rugged laptop, aimed at the region’s mobile workforce.

The firm’s CF-74 notebook boasts a 1.83GHz Intel Core Duo (dual-core) processor and like its predecessor – the 2GHz Pentium M Toughbook 73 - it features a 80Gbyte shock-mounted hard disk along with 512Mbytes of RAM, which can be upgraded to 4Gbytes (the CF-73’s RAM can only be expanded to 1.5Gbytes).

The Toughbook CF-74 boasts a magnesium alloy case, integrated handle, spill-resistant keyboard and a claimed battery life of eight hours in contrast to the CF-73’s quoted three hours and fifteen minutes figure.

Additionally, the CF-74 is equipped with an extra anti-reflex coating and a Trusted Platform Module (TPM v.1.2) security chip to help protect sensitive information. WiFi and Bluetooth support are also present, with a fingerprint scanner and smart card reader optional.

The 2.7kg CF-74 notebook is currently available across the region for approximately US $3600 and comes with a three-year limited warranty.
