HP boosts Saudi assembly capacity

HP has announced the increase in capacity of its assembly plant in Saudi Arabia. The facility will now serve the entire Middle East’s production needs for desktops as well as part of its African operation.

HP made the announcement at a roundtable held at Gitex Saudi Arabia, where Anil Ghandi, general manager at HP’s Personal Systems Group (PSG) Middle East addressed the shows attendees.

““HP was the first multi national company to establish a PC assembly plant in the Kingdom, demonstrating our ability to anticipate the market’s potential before our competitors. By listening closely to our customers’ needs we have been able to predict demand levels and ensure our capacity to supply grows ahead of this demand,” said Ghandi.

“Ultimately, what the expansion means is more convenient and faster access to technology for consumers in the Middle East and Africa and a boost in computing exports for one of the region’s largest countries,” added Ghandi.

The expansion in production will create ‘significantly’ more jobs at the assembly plant according to HP. The roundtable also announced a new position be created as the head of the company’s Imaging and Printing Group (IPG) for the country, naming Khaled Kamel for the role.

“The objective of increasing our presence in Saudi Arabia is to interact more closely with our partners and customers, in order to continuously grow and strengthen our leadership in imaging and printing. The new Saudi country manager, Khaled Kamel, has been with HP since 2000 and was instrumental in the growth of [HP in] the Gulf region. His latest challenge will see him managing one of the region’s largest and most diverse consumer portfolios across Saudi Arabia,” said Amr Hassan, general manager, IPG at HP Middle East.
