Visitors from around the world have descended on Riyadh for Gitex Saudi Arabia 2006, confirming the Kingdom’s credentials as a major IT market on both the regional and global stage. Event organisers at Riyadh Exhibitions Company claim that delegations from more than 15 countries arranged to participate ahead of the show including Egypt, the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Syria, Taiwan, Hong Kong, India, Malaysia, Singapore, Russia, Belgium, the UK and USA.
Visitors from many more countries are expected to be represented among the 100,000 attendees flooding through the halls during the five day show. With products and solutions from close to 1,000 vendors displayed on the stands of more than 350 exhibitors, the buzz at this year’s show is reflected in the Kingdom’s buoyant IT spending climate.
Telecoms operators STC and Mobily booked a prominent presence at this year’s show, reserving most of their space three months ahead of the show. With the crème de la crème of the Kingdom’s IT community attending alongside tens of thousands of consumers attracted by offers at Gitex Shopper, exhibitors are working hard to cater to the needs of all visitors.
Mohammed Al Husseni, VP at event organiser Riyadh Limited Fairs Company, said: “Several forums are being held during the show by major IT vendors to introduce new global trends and practices to resellers and decision makers in companies and government departments that are implementing e-government initiatives.”
With the Kingdom’s total IT spend expected to soar above US$6 billion during 2006, this year’s Gitex is more important than ever.
