Prajit Arakkal, Symantec business unit manager at Aptec is leaving the distributor later this month. Arakkal is making the leap from distributor to vendor and will take up the role of distribution account manager Middle East and North Africa (MENA) at Symantec itself.

Arakkal will leave Aptec on April 13th and assume his new position at Symantec on April 16th, looking after the security and storage software giant’s first tier distribution partners across the region.

“I am very excited about this new career opportunity,” said Arakkal. “Having worked in the channel for many years at Aptec I feel that I understand the needs of distributors and resellers and the support and service that they require from a vendor.”

“I am looking forward to putting in place procedures and distribution policies that will further enhance Symantec’s strong position in the market,” he added.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed working at Aptec, but felt that it was the right time to move on and take up a new challenge. Having worked closely with Symantec during the last few years, I was keen to take up this role,” concluded Arakkal.

The recent acquisition of Veritas has resulted in Symantec taking a long hard look at its go-to-market model around the world. A brand new channel programme, which blends together the previous Symantec and Veritas models is due to be formally announced in the coming few months.

Symantec’s existing distributor line-up for the Middle East includes Aptec, Mindware and ITE Distribution among others.
