Pro Technology has announced plans to open an office in Al Khobar, Saudi Arabia, this May. The distributor believes the time is right for on the ground investment in the Kingdom, due to the pace of growth it sees in the country’s IT market.

“Pro Technology sees immense potential in Saudi Arabia’s IT sector, which recorded an expenditure of US$8.6bn alone during 2004. We expect this to rise to US$60bn by 2020. There is a huge demand for our IT solutions from the large-scale projects the Kingdom is planning and executing in infrastructure development, and the strategic oil and gas and health and industry sectors,” said Jamal Maraqa, managing director at Pro Technology.

Pro Technology has appointed partner managing director Abdullah Al Mutrif as head of the company’s operations in Saudi. This is the first stage of an ambitious expansion plan laid out by the company, the next phase of which will see it establish additional offices in Jeddah and Riyadh by October this year.

“The office will provide sales, customer, and technical support to clients in the Kingdom and will be fully backed by our head office in Dubai. Our expansion plans will allow Pro Technology to leverage its growing network of partners and branches to provide comprehensive and diverse IT solutions in information storage and digital archiving to multinationals, government organisations and medium and large business enterprises,” said Al Mutrif.

Pro Technology has an established regional base in the Middle East with offices in the UAE, Iran, Jordan, Libya and Sudan. The vendor’s portfolio includes products from vendors Apple, HP, IBM, Dicota, Qualstar, Nexsan, Storageflex, Symantec/Veritas, Lacie and Canto.
