Verre tops Dubai restaurant awards

The Hilton Dubai Creek’s Verre restaurant has scooped the prestigious “Restaurant of the Year 2006” trophy at the first ever Time Out Restaurant Awards.

The Hilton Dubai Creek’s Verre restaurant has scooped the prestigious “Restaurant of the Year 2006” trophy at the first ever Time Out Restaurant Awards.

The ceremony, held last Tuesday night at the Grosvenor House Hotel, saw 21 awards handed out to the emirate’s finest restaurants. The awards were chosen by a panel of experts, including Time Out’s own food and drink specialists.

Marcus Webb, Time Out’s editor, said: “It’s very refreshing to see awards given out on merit, for pure quality, rather than for the quantity of forms that some people can send in. This is the first of many years of Time Out Restaurant Awards to come.”

The Verre restaurant is run by celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay, and has developed a strong reputation for quality food. The judging panel noted: “Verre has kept pace with the upsurge in quality, and while its menu is not blazing brave new culinary trails like some of its competitors, it does deliver glorious, note-perfect dishes with utter reliability.”

Another much coveted award, that for “Best Newcomer”, went to Mezzanine at the Grosvenor House Hotel. Run by acclaimed chef Gary Robinson, the judges noted: “Mezzanine stormed into first place with stellar contemporary British and French cooking, and bold interior décor."
