Dandana TV, a 24/7 Arabic video music channel based in New Jersey, is using Chyron’s CAL Box graphics platform at its studio in Cairo. The platform is being used to manage the channel’s front end SMS messaging service.

After SMS messages sent by Dandana viewers have been modified and reviewed, CAL Box inserts and displays the messages in real-time using custom software, with Chyron’s CAL SDK. Following the channel’s uplink via GlobeCast to North American viewers, Dandana TV is downlinked via Nilesat to viewers in the Middle East within the Nilesat footprint. “Dandana TV provides an excellent service bringing Arabian music to a number of cultures both inside and outside the Middle East,” says David Ward, VP and general manager, Chyron EAME. “CAL Box’s graphics engine provides Dandana TV with a cost-effective solution to display viewers’ SMS messages, and a highly flexible tool that can be modified for any number of services.”

Dandana TV was launched in July 2004 in response to the growing population of Arabic-speaking viewers, as well as non-Arabic speaking viewers interested in Middle Eastern pop-culture in North America.
