Oman TV opts for Nexio server system
Oman Television, Oman’s state broadcaster, has selected the Leitch Nexio server platform as its first server-based news production and playout system.
Oman Television, Oman’s state broadcaster, has selected the Leitch Nexio server platform as its first server-based news production and playout system. The new system includes three Leitch NewsFlash non-linear editors and 10 Leitch NewsFlash Preditor low-resolution browse/editors.
Oman TV, which transmits its broadcasts through a network of stations spread across the country, chose the Nexio for news production and transmission applications at its new facility in Muscat. The system also includes an Autocue QSeries client server application system, which handles newsroom and transmission automation. “We are delighted to be taking delivery of the Leitch Nexio server-based products for our new newsroom production centre,” says Mohammad Salim Marhouby, director general of engineering at the Ministry of Information, Sultanate of Oman. “Key to our choice was knowing that the products would be future-proofed for our requirements. This is important to us as we plan to expand our facility, launch a second channel and move toward high-definition transmission in the months ahead.”
Nexio is a modular, scalable server system for transmission and news environments, which offers integrated application platforms for editing, browsing and media management across a multi-tiered storage hierarchy. As an operation grows, the Nexio design allows users to build systems up to 28.8 terabytes in a single domain — in increments. The system’s low-resolution solution, NewsFlash Preditor, features a user interface between high- and low-resolution editing environments. Completed projects can be passed from NewsFlash Preditor back to the Nexio to be converted into high-resolution, broadcast-ready clips, or they can be further refined using the system’s NewsFlash in-server networked editor.
“We are honoured to have been selected to handle news production and playout at the Sultanate of Oman Television,” says Dave Dougall, vice president, Europe, for Harris Broadcast Communications Division’s Leitch Business Unit. “The Nexio system’s ability to handle in-server editing has ensured its success in fast-paced news environments. Because speed of materials processing and throughput is such a critical factor for most newsrooms today, the Nexio server has become a leading component in news production environments around the world.”
Mustafa Sultan SECOM, distributor for Leitch in Oman, was responsible for the deal.
