Thermaltake has announced what it claims is the world’s first dedicated power supply for PC graphics cards

Thermaltake has announced what it claims is the world’s first dedicated power supply for PC graphics cards. The product, called the Purepower Power Express 250W, is designed to make multi-GPU systems less of a burden on standard PC power supplies.

The supply offers 250W of power, fits into a standard PC 5.25” drive bay and features two 6-pin PCI Express power connectors with which to connect graphics cards. The company claims the power supply is compatible with both ATi CrossFire and nVidia SLI systems and reckons that the product will enable enthusiasts and overclockers to run high-performance multi-GPU systems without worrying about system stability.

The Purepower can be manually turned on or off and can be connected directly with the machine’s main power supply for synchronous power up. The unit draws power directly from an AC mains socket via an external power cord that can be routed through a system’s empty PCI slot.

The product should hit stores by the end of the month and pricing is expected to be below $100.
