Foxconn reports AMD platform success

Foxconn has reported that it has started to reap the rewards of its venture in the AMD powered motherboard market. The components vendor tied up with Graphics card manufacturer Nvidia and Middle East distributor Sky electronics in December to launch a new bundle of its AMD platform boards and since then Foxconn says that interest in and sales of its AMD platform offering have really taken off.

“From looking at the product that we released with AMD, I can tell that the vendor is growing in the region. The sales percentage of all of our products is growing; but AMD has risen from less than 10% of our total motherboard sales. At the end of last year and the beginning of this year, I have started to see the AMD figure soaring,” said David Shih, managing director at Foxconn Middle East.

Shih offers that AMD would do well to copy its own model in the region, which puts its main emphasis on the marketing and promotional aspects of its brand.

“AMD’s position is a little like ours at Foxconn, as it has space to grow. AMD has roughly 5% or less in most of the markets in the Middle East. AMD needs to push demand itself, it needs to put more into marketing to advertising and show that it is dedicated to establishing its channel and themselves as a major player in this region,” added Shih.
