Users bid for better auction site

Maktoob’s recently launched Souq.com auction site has been upgraded with new features and promotions, following user feedback since its launch in September.

Maktoob’s recently launched Souq.com auction site has been upgraded with new features and promotions, following user feedback since its launch in September.

“We have made a number of tweaks to the site, including two new main categories - Arts and Clothing - as well as improving the speed at which users can surf Souq.com,” stated Yasir Khan, UAE country manager of Souq.com.

“We’ve also started running promotions from time to time. For instance, we are currently offering free pick-up and delivery for a limited amount of time for items up to five kilograms within the UAE,” Khan added.

At present, the site is only available to users in the UAE and Jordan. However, the firm has plans to expand further. “In the UAE we see ourselves growing extremely fast and our next target is Saudi Arabia”, said Khan.

The auction and marketplace site currently boasts approximately 3,300 UAE users and has to date generated over $54,495 (AED 200,000) worth of business in the UAE alone.

When asked what challenges the site had faced so far, Khan stated its main challenge has been that many regional users lacked sufficient knowledge of auctioning and bidding for items online.
