Prime Sports opts for Quartz master control switcher

In a joint venture to produce sports programmes for the expatriate market in the region, Ten Sports and ADD have launched an English-language sports channel called Prime Sports, which will be using a Quartz QMC switcher.

In a joint venture to produce sports programmes for the expatriate market in the region, Ten Sports and pay TV operator, Arab Digital Distribution (ADD) have launched an English-language sports channel called Prime Sports. The channel, which covers major sporting events such as the FIFA World Cup and the English Premier League, will be using a Quartz QMC master control switcher for the purpose.

Ten Sports, which was contracted by ADD to undertake the production for Prime Sports, selected Quartz Electronics to provide a master control solution for packaging the new channel at its production facility in Dubai Media City.

‘We made our system selection based on previous experience with the company. We had bought a four-channel QMC for the launch of Ten Sports in 2003,” says Colin Sherriff, Ten Sports vice president of engineering. “Quartz offers a very competitive package, as well as compactness, expandability, and a large portfolio of third-party protocols for universal interfacing,” he adds.

Prime Sports’ single channel QMC is configured with four key layers and includes the internal logo store option. Each key layer is user-configurable and can be controlled independently under automation or manual control. The unit also offers bypass and emergency inputs, and hot-swap boards.
