Galfar snap up US $80 million Oman sewage treatment deal

Nexans and Prysmian join up to lay underwater power cable to kick off part of larger plan to connect up the entire GCC

Galfar Engineering and Contracting has won a US $80 million (OR31 million) contract to build the Al Ansab sewage treatment plant for Oman Wastewater Services Company.

The project, the biggest sewage treatment plant within the Sultanate, is part of the Muscat Wastewater Project — worth a total of $1.3 billion.

Ahmed bin Abdulnabi Macki, minister of national economy and deputy chairman of the Financial Affairs and Energy Resources Council, said: “The production capacity of the station is 53 000 m3 of recycled water per day, which will be used for irrigation and other similar purposes in the capital area.”

“The government of Oman has provided a budget to finance 18 wastewater and sewage treatment plants all over the country. When completed, these plants will protect water resources, ground and underground water from pollution; they will replenish these resources and provide water for many purposes,” he added.

The Al Ansab sewage treatment plant will produce high quality treated water and is expected to serve the area from Al Wadi Al Kabir to Azaiba.

The plant constitutes an important component of the Bausher wastewater network and will receive wastewater from the main pumping station currently under construction in Al Azaiba.

The project is expected to be completed in two years.
The first phase of the Muscat Wastewater Project will be completed at the end of 2007 while the strategic project is expected to be completed by the year 2017.

Oman Wastewater Services Company is carrying out the construction and operation works of the wastewater system, located in the governorate of Muscat.
