Sun Microsystems has embarked on a regional roadshow to highlight the technologies and solutions that it believes will shape the Middle East IT market in 2006. Grid computing, identity management and data protection are high on Sun’s agenda.

Sun’s regional roadshow — targeted at both partners and customers — kicked off in Dubai on November 14th. Partner training takes place in Riyadh on November 15th followed by a customer event in Dammam on November 16th. The roadshow will then call in at Lahore on November 21st and 22nd followed by events in Egypt on December 4th and 5th and Algeria on December 6th and 7th.

“The next six weeks is a critical period for regional businesses as they finalise their IT agendas for 2006,” said Bruno Haubertin, channel sales manager at Sun Microsystems Middle East and North Africa. “We’re seeing that customers and partners are most concerned about investing in entry-level hardware to build grid environments, protect their critical information and manage growing stores of data —all in a high performance, reliable and cost-effective way.”

“These executive events for Sun’s customers and partners are highlighting the most dynamic technology trends for 2006 and showing firsthand how they can be implemented locally for maximum business impact,” he added.

Sun will showcase its AMD Opteron-based x64 systems and solutions for building grid environments and will also provide a throughput computing update as well as a Sun Solaris demonstration for server consolidation initiatives.

Attendees will also receive software solution updates on Sun’s identity management solutions and the latest release of the Java enterprise system. Sun also plans to talk partners and customers through the regional impact of its recent acquisitions including SeeBeyond and StorageTek.
